Kansas Capital Quilters Guild began in June 1986 when seven quilters felt the need for Topeka to have it’s own guild. Since the first meeting the guild has grown to over 150 members who share a common interest and enthusiasm for quilting.
Meetings are held the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month from 7 pm to 9 pm at the Woman’s Club in Topeka. There is a program with interesting speakers or mini workshops on the first meeting of the month. The second meeting is one in which to work together on individual projects or those of the guild. Members receive a monthly newsletter containing guild events, information and a pattern.
Each year the guild puts on a large quilt show. Our major group project, a donation quilt, is displayed and donations for this quilt support programs and projects throughout the year. In addition, the guild participates in numerous community service projects that vary from year to year.
Among the members are many beginners who are picking up tips and starting their first projects. Others have quilted for years and are still learning new skills and ideas. Some love to piece, others to appliqué and others enjoy the quilting itself. At every meeting members “Show and Tell” about recently finished projects, new ideas, and old or family quilts.
